Estimate the SDIP points and the rough premium impact of a Massachusetts at-fault accident or traffic violation. Everything runs in your browser.
| Incident | SDIP points |
|---|---|
| Minor at-fault accident — claim > $1,000 up to $5,000 | 3 |
| Major at-fault accident — claim over $5,000 | 4 |
| Minor traffic violation | 2 |
| Major traffic violation (e.g. OUI, leaving the scene) | 5 |
For an experienced operator, each point adds roughly 15% to the compulsory coverages (Parts 1, 2, 4) and optional Part 7 Collision. Actual impact varies by insurer, territory, coverage, and step placement, so this is an estimate, not a quote. An accident under $1,000 in paid claim, or where you were not more than 50% at fault, should not be surcharged at all. A first minor non-criminal violation in 5 years is generally exempt from points.
